Our Record
We have made substantial investments in Scotch Plains’ parks and recreation programs over the past four years, and we are just getting started!
Brookside Park
- The 2024 Municipal Budget supports constructing permanent pickleball courts at Brookside for residents of all ages to enjoy!
Kramer Manor Park
- The 2024 Municipal Budget also included funds to resurface the two basketball courts and seven tennis courts at Kramer Manor Park
Green Forest Park
- Prior budgets included authorizations for improvements to Green Forest Park. One new tennis and two new pickleball courts are open as of March 2024!
- A multi-use court designed for futsal and hockey is anticipated to be finished this spring! Click on this link for more information.

Haven Park
- The 2024 Municipal Budget included improvements to Haven Park, including a new basketball court, fencing and more! Click on this link for additional information.
Southside Field

Scotch Plains Township is safer than it has ever been because of changes our Police Department and Fire Department have made
- In 2023, SPPD joined a task force organized to combat automobile theft in Union County. See https://newjersey.news12.com/union-county-officials-reveal-new-task-force-to-help-local-police-combat-growing-crime-vehicle-theft for more information.
- Cameras have been positioned throughout the Township to assist the SPPD in combatting crime
- The SPPD has deployed body-worn cameras to all patrol officers
- We have also authorized the installation of traffic calming devices on our busiest streets to remind drivers to drive more safely.
- SPPD’s Community Policing Unit regularly issues fraud and scam alerts warning residents before they fall victim to crime.
- Scotch Plains Fire Department New Ambulance Service
- IN 2023, the Scotch Plains Fire Department began providing Emergency Medical Services through Scotch Plains and the greater community. See https://www.tapinto.net/towns/scotch-plains-slash-fanwood/sections/police-and-fire/articles/scotch-plains-fire-department-s-ems-service-begins-saturday-april-1 for more information. The new EMS services were initiated to complement the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad that has served the township so well and for so very long. The new emergency service makes Scotch Plains safer than it has ever been – without question – as emergency response time has substantially improved with this new service. The Township has expanded its Recreation Senior Services over the past four years, including a senior nutrition program, senior activities (such as a senior trip, senior yoga, board games, puzzles, cards and jeopardy) and so much more! - In 2023, the Township identified Woodmont Properties (https://www.woodmontproperties.com) as the conditional redeveloper of downtown Scotch Plains. Woodmont’s impressive track record, including transforming Metuchen and Cranford, demonstrates that they are the right builder for Scotch Plains.
- Downtown revitalization will result in a new Scotch Plains Library and Town Hall organized efficiently in one building in our downtown, a new Emergency Services building to house our Police, Fire Department, and Rescue Squad on Plainfield Avenue, and sufficient commercial space to attract new restaurants and businesses to our downtown. The plan also calls for adequate open space that builds off the Village Green for community!
