It is with deep sadness that we morn the passing of County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi. She was an institution in Union County and a great friend to Scotch Plains. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.A statement from Senate President and County Chairman Nicholas P. Scutari regarding his friend County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi’s passing: ![]()
“Joanne was one of the finest public servants in the history of the State of New Jersey. Her track record in keeping our elections transparent, safe, and secure was second to none. In her role as both a Democratic party leader and as an expert in elections, there were no voices I trusted more. Over the last several years we had grown closer and I depended on her thoughts and opinions regarding pending legislation. She was a leader amongst her peers, and a giant in Union County political circles. She will be dearly missed, but her incredible legacy will never be forgotten.”![]()

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Szpond Jr., father of our Vice-Chairman, Ray Szpond, and a staple around the SPDC for years at all of our events. Through the years he has laughed with us and provided sage counsel from the perspective of a life well lived. While quiet in demeanor, his stature within our organization was mighty. Our condolences are with the entire Szpond family during this difficult time.

Tom Kean Jr. continues to bend the knee to Donald Trump and genuflect to his dear leader as the residents of his district suffer the consequences of his policies. It’s time to send someone to Congress that will stand up for the critical infrastructure projects, like a one seat ride, that our region so desperately needs.

KEAN MUST GO!!I am relieved that Congressman Tom Kean Jr. is well and continue to wish him good health. ![]()
But let’s be clear: I got into this race because Tom Kean Jr. was failing our community long before this absence. He was the deciding vote on the One Big Beautiful Bill, which jacked up health care costs for everyone and kicked thousands off of their health insurance in our district. He has consistently failed to stand up for our communities, including when funding for the Gateway project was threatened. And he voted in favor of a reckless war that has made everything more expensive for New Jersey families.![]()
Yet Tom Kean Jr. still somehow found time to trade stocks while missing votes. This is the self-serving culture in Washington that New Jerseyans are rejecting, and the kind of behavior they are sick and tired of from career politicians. ![]()
I spent my life serving this country in uniform, and I’m ready to serve our district in Congress. It’s time we hold Tom Kean Jr. accountable for his record and bring a new generation of leadership to Washington.
